What is the difference in DSL technologies?
NIA offers business customers only the best of DSL technologies. Our NIA DSL packages use the following technologies to provide the most reliable connections to the Internet.
  • Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL)
SDSL is a symmetrical service, which means the upstream speed is the same as the downstream speed. NIA SDSL is 35 times faster than a 28.8 Kbps dial-up modem and available in various speeds up to 1.5 Mbps. Symmetrical lines are ideal for businesses looking for fractional T-1 speeds to support applications like Web hosting or sending large file attachments.

  • ISDN Digital Subscriber Line (IDSL)
NIA IDSL is able to deliver always-on connections with speeds up to 144 Kbps, and as far as 26,000 feet (almost five miles) from the Central Office (CO)! With a greater distance capability, IDSL is ideal for businesses located slightly outside the reach of traditional DSL.

  • Burstable T1 Services
The type of DSL service and speed generally depends on how far you are located from the phone company central office. Therefore, many businesses may not qualify or get the speed that they need. Generally, their only other option is to get a full T1 service that costs up to $1,000 or over. That’s why our Bustrable T1 service is an attractive option for many businesses. Our Burstable T1 service utilizes ATM technology to provide dependable high-speed Internet services for less than the cost of a full T1 connection. NIA can provide burtable T1 services anywhere within the serving area of a NIA CO, irrespective of how far you are located from the central office.

Why Not ADSL?
Telephone companies generally provide an ADSL product, which is not a true business solution. ADSL comes with a simple bridge that provides a DSL connection - but nothing more. There is no protection for your network from outside attacks and you cannot connect multiple computers together. Additionally, you cannot host Web or e-mail servers with ADSL. The telephone companies advertise a business-class solution, but the evidence is clear: ADSL doesn't meet the needs of today's businesses. NIA provides the true business-class service in NIA DSL.
